The balance of Tom’s practice involves general commercial litigation. As part of that practice, Tom represents businesses in their various litigation needs from collections, to contract disputes, and enforcing property rights.
Since the early 1990’s, Tom has provided guidance to companies with respect to the ever-changing laws, rules and regulations that govern employment practices. Tom has handled EEOC complaints, Title VII cases, administration and legal issues involving the FLSA, Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and other federal and state laws relating to employees. Using his experience with employment litigation, Tom is able to advise his clients on how to avoid getting into litigation.
Tom has been involved in writing and litigation non-competition agreements for over a quarter century. In that time, he has watched the continued struggle between our Texas legislature that favors non-competes, and a court system that, until recently, has not.
Tom graduated from Baylor Law School in 1989 with his Juris Doctorate Degree. He graduated from Baylor University in 1986 with honors. He is from East Texas, having graduated from Gladewater High School in 1982.
Tom has been licensed to practice law in the State of Texas since November of 1989. He is also admitted to practice in the federal courts for the Northern, Eastern and Western District of Texas, and in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.
Tom has represented many different types of businesses, mainly in the Dallas and North Texas area. In general, Tom’s clients include car dealerships, commercial construction contractors, construction subcontractors, title companies, service businesses, restaurants, inventors, retailers, wholesalers, and lending institutions.
Tom has been retained by several different insurance companies to defend legal malpractice cases involving business transactions. The insurance companies choose Tom to handle these types of cases because his extensive experience in representing businesses allows him to understand the transactions being litigated. Tom has also been engaged to represent other industries under their errors and omissions coverage.
Tom also represents homeowners associations and property management companies.
